Leaking or ruptured breast implants are not life-threatening. However, you should still contact us right away so that we can remove the defective implant(s).

If you have saline implants, your body can absorb whatever material leaks. Silicone gel, on the other hand, remains intact. Issues can arise if an extracapsular rupture occurs, where the gel migrates beyond the scar tissue around the implant. This gel can be difficult to remove, but it is not impossible. Dr. S. After receiving breast implants, you should always keep the expiration date in mind. Implants do not last forever and will need to be revised eventually.

Although your implants can last up to 20 years, you should monitor them for any changes as time goes on. The most effective method is using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which can detect changes to the structure of your implants and the breast tissue around them.
